FUEL TANKS HERE
YOU CAN SEE THREE LINES TO THE TANK. ONE 3/8"=SUPPLY ONE 5/16"=VENT, AND ONE 1/4"=RETURN. THE WIRE IN THE CENTER, GOES TO THE GAUGE. THE WIRE ATTACHED TO THE OUTSIDE RING, IS THE GROUND. IT IS ADVISED YOU USE A BRASS PUNCH TO ROTATE THE LOCK RING WHEN REMOVING THE SENDING UNIT. REMEMBER A GALLON OF FUEL WEIGHS ABOUT 8 POUNDS. THAT MEANS 10 GALLONS IS ABOUT 80 POUNDS. SLOSHING AROUND POUNDS. MAKES CHANGING THE TANK HARD. HOW DO I KNOW? I SIPHONED THE 10 + GALLONS OUT OF MINE, AFTER LOWERING IT TO THE GROUND. IT WAS LEAKING IN 3 PLACES, I *HAD* TO CHANGE IT.
IF YOUR FUEL TANK HAS A PLASTIC SHIELD, YOU SHOULD REMOVE IT AND DRILL A FEW 1/2" HOLES IN THE BOTTOM TO ALLOW DEBRIS TO BE WASHED OUT. ALL IT TAKES IS ONE LITTLE PEBBLE TO GET CAUGHT BETWEEN THE TANK AND THE PLASTIC TO RUB THROUGH YOUR TANK AND CAUSE A LEAK. ACCUMULATION OF MUD AND GRIT BETWEEN THE TANK AND THE PLASTIC SHIELD WILL PROMOTE RUST, AND ACCELERATE THE RUST PROCESS, CAUSING PIN HOLE LEAKS.
THIS IS A FUEL TANK MOUNTING BRACKET THAT I REMOVED, SANDBLASTED, AND PAINTED. I SHOULD TELL YOU TO NEVER TRY TO LOOSEN THE STRAP NUTS. INSTEAD, USE A NUT SPLITTER TO GET THE NUTS OFF. HOW DO I KNOW? I EVEN SNAPPED A STRAP LOOSENING A SPLIT NUT ! USE NO MORE FORCE THAN NEEDED.
THE GOOD NEWS IS YOU CAN GET NEW STRAPS HERE
THIS IS ON MY FUEL TANK VENT HOSE. MY TRUCK IS HEAVY DUTY EMISSIONS, SO THERE IS NO TUBING TO A CHARCOAL CANISTER UNDER THE HOOD. THIS IS THE END USED ON AXLE AND TRANSMISSION VENT HOSES TOO.
THE LITTLE CAP IS SPRING LOADED.
